Fred Whiton

fred_whitonMr. Fred Whiton has 30 years of experience in the aerospace and defense industry, which includes engineering, operations, program and portfolio management, mergers/acquisition, and strategy development. He is currently employed by CACI as Senior Vice President within the Mission Solutions and Services Business Group. Fred has both domestic and international expertise within homeland security, communications command and control intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) sensors and services, military and commercial aerospace systems, and defense systems supporting the US Navy, US Air Force, US Army, US DHS, SOCOM, Intelligence Community and Coalition Partners across a full range of functions from marketing, concept development, engineering, and production into life cycle sustainment and logistics. Fred began his career as a design engineer at General Dynamics, was promoted to a group engineer at Lockheed Martin, and was a senior director at Northrop Grumman within the Homeland Defense Government Systems team. As Vice President of engineering and operations at Smiths Aerospace, he was responsible for all engineering and operations. Prior to joining CACI he was Vice President and General Manager of the Tactical Communications and Network Solutions Line of Business within DRS Technologies-Finmeccanica responsible for leading a global technical services portfolio as a major Line of Business within the Aviation, Communication and Homeland Security Group.

Fred has a BS Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, a MS Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a Master Engineering Administration from The George Washington University, and a MBA from The University of Chicago.

Fred is a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Maryland, a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), served as a commissioner on the Maryland Commission for Manufacturing Competiveness under Governor Ehrlich, and served as a commissioner on the Maryland Commission on Autism under Governor O’Malley. Fred is a co-author of the recently published book The Lean Practitioner’s Field Book and served as a Board of Director for the Regional Manufacturing Institute headquartered in Maryland. Fred presently serves as a Board of Director on the First Maryland Disability Trust and as a Board of Director on the Army Alliance.
